Sunriver & SHARC Guide
Pools, bike paths and river trails, plus a Sunriver home with 8 SHARC passes.
Sunriver is Central Oregon’s classic family getaway: pine forest, mountain views, more than 30 miles of paved bike paths, the Deschutes River, and SHARC, the community’s big aquatic and recreation center. Here’s a quick guide from the owners of 7 Rogue, our home inside Sunriver, and two riverfront cabins just south of town.
SHARC: pools, lazy river and more
SHARC (the Sunriver Homeowners Aquatic & Recreation Center) is the place most families head first. It has indoor and outdoor pools, a lazy river, water slides, a hot tub, splash and play areas for little kids, a café, a park and playground, and a disc golf course. The indoor pool is open year-round; the outdoor pools are summer only, and there’s a tubing hill on select winter dates.
SHARC passes at 7 Rogue
7 Rogue comes with 8 Recreation Plus passes through the Sunriver Owners Association’s rental program. The passes give your group access to SHARC’s indoor and outdoor pools and disc golf, plus the association’s tennis and pickleball courts (reservation required) and its boat launch. They don’t include the owners-only fitness center. Hours and rules change by season, so check the Sunriver Owners Association before you go.
Bike paths and river trails
Sunriver’s paved path network is the easiest way to get around: bike to SHARC, The Village, the Nature Center or the river. 7 Rogue has cruiser bikes in the garage, and it’s a short ride to Cardinal Landing Bridge and the Deschutes River Trail.
- Sun Lava Path: about 12 miles round trip from Sunriver to Benham Falls and the Lava Lands Visitor Center.
- Benham Falls: about 3.5 miles north of Sunriver, with a footbridge and riverside trail.
The Village, Nature Center and stargazing
The Village at Sunriver has shops, restaurants, ice cream and bike and boat rentals. The Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory has birds of prey, a botanical garden and nature trail, and telescopes for night-sky viewing. Sunriver’s dark skies are a big part of the appeal.
Getting around Central Oregon
- Bend: about 15 miles north
- Mt. Bachelor: about 18 miles (roughly 20 minutes)
- Redmond Airport (RDM): about 35 miles (roughly 45 minutes)
Where to stay
7 Rogue is inside Sunriver on a quiet forested loop: 3 bedrooms, sleeps 8, private hot tub, A/C, game garage with cruiser bikes, two kayaks and 8 SHARC passes. It isn’t riverfront, but the river trail is close by.
Want to wake up on the river? The Beaver Cabin and The Marten Cabin sit on the Big Deschutes about 10 minutes south of Sunriver, with hot tubs and kayaks. See our fishing & floating guide.
